Ravens add Dr. Nic Gill for outside perspective on sports performance

Elliott Welcomes Dr. Nic Gill’s Outside Perspective

The Baltimore Ravens added to their performance staff this offseason, hiring Dr. Nic Gill as Vice President of Health & Performance. Director of Strength and Conditioning Scott Elliott said Gill's experience outside the NFL brings a different perspective to the building.

The newly created role will oversee strength and conditioning, medical, nutrition, and sports science within a single, fully integrated system. Known as "Gilly,” he brings more than two decades of elite high-performance experience, including nearly 20 years with the New Zealand All Blacks.

"[Having Dr. Nic Gill here has been] wonderful – exciting, to be honest with you. That speaks to the organization as a whole. I honestly – and I'm biased, [as] I'm standing up here in front of you guys, I'm biased – we're the best culture in the NFL and even in sport. And to your point, bringing in the VP that's outside of our sport gives us an opportunity to find ways to evolve and have an outside expert in their field that's got years of experience that can come in and either look for ways to evolve, look for ways to confirm or change where necessary. I think that's going to be huge. It's been a great start. I think as the guys continue to kind of see that communication, it's only going to benefit them. It all comes down to the players."

Elliott said bringing in someone from outside the sport gives the Ravens a chance to look at things differently, whether that means reinforcing what they already do well or adjusting where needed.

By creating this role and conducting an international search to fill it, the Ravens are making it clear that player health and performance remain a priority moving forward. Bringing in a globally respected leader with experience at the highest level reflects the organization's continued investment in building a comprehensive, modern approach to keeping players healthy and available throughout the season.
